44th Annual Thomasville, GA Fly-In - KTVI

This fly in is our home show venue so we were able to take lots of products and set up the BIG booth with the Maule in static display, 2 motorcycles, 4 tables, and 2 canopies. This 3 day fly-in begins on Friday but we were set up and ready for business by mid day Thursday. The weather was looking good on Weds. but a stubborn low pressure system in Southern Florida moved slowly up the coast bringing lots of rain and low ceilings throughout the state. Many of those attending the Thomasville Fly-In come from middle Florida. By Friday it was obvious the weather was going to put a dent in the the fly in but that is the way things are with outdoor events. The wind blew hard for the whole event but it didn't rain! Plenty of folks still came to marvel at the aircraft on display and enjoy being at the airport. All in all the Thomasville Fly In was a success and we look forward to being there next year. Come join us for the fun!!

The 5th Annual Triple Tree Fly-In enjoyed beautiful weather!

Triple Tree Aerodrome is located near Enoree, SC and is a beautiful place for a fly-in. Tropical storm Lee was making a hasty exit to the North early in the week which left great weather for the fly in. We arrived at the airstrip early Thursday and set up the Maule in static display. We unloaded and set up the vendor booth and was ready for customers by noon. There were lots of folks camping with many airplanes parked on the huge airfield. I counted 132 on Friday night and most of people were camped in the surrounding woods (us included). By Saturday noon there were over 400 aircraft at the field with many fly bys and demonstrations during the day. It was a hoot! People were having lots of fun and customer traffic in the booth was brisk with many RLM/AV T-shirts sold! For those of you that did not attend, we look forward to seeing you in central South Carolina next year!

5th Annual Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-In

We will be attending this year's Triple Tree Fly-In as a vendor. The fly in is hosted by the Triple Tree Aerodrome near Woodruff, SC and begins on Weds. September 7th. The event will run the rest of the week and ends on Sunday September 11th. It is said to be a beautiful place!

Click here to see the Triple Tree website.

We will have our vendor booth set up that will include our Maule MT-7-235 aircraft as static display. The folks from the Maule plant also plan to attend and will fly one of their demo aircraft to the show. We will offer the AirHawk aviation seat cushion, T-shirts, and other pilot supplies that all pilots need and want. Best of all, you will get to come by to see us and talk airplanes and motorcycles!

This is our first visit to this event and we are looking forward to good weather and a fun fly in.
If you are in the SoutEast plan to fly in or drive in for a visit. See you there!

"Any Marine" - Care Package Donation - Armed Forces Day

RL Motorcycles & Aviation, LLC in partnership with Woodmen of the World, Lodge 43 Thomasville, GA, recently collected donations, prepared and shipped over 240 pounds of "Care Packages" to the "Any Marine" program. These packages contained all sorts of items requested by Marines serving in Afghanistan. The requested items were listed on the "Any Marine" website by the Marines themselves so they should receive exactly what they want and need. Packages included baby wipes, razors, batteries, books/magazines, soap, shampoo, and various other toiletries in limited supply. It seems many of our Marines live and operate in the most primitive of conditions and deserve any and all the help we can provide them. The destination for the care packages were selected at random from the list of Marines posting their information on the "Any Marine" website.

Sun & Fun did not blow us away!

This week we were working with Maule Air at their display at the Sun & Fun 2011 fly in Lakeland, Fl (we are sales reps.). The week began poorly with lots of bad weather in Alabama and Georgia which was effectively blocking many pilots/visitors from flying in to the event. Tuesday and weds. were ok but the crowds were obviously diminished. We were making the best of it and did meet some nice folks and caught up with old friends we see only at the shows.

Thursday was the big event!

Around 11AM the Sun & Fun folks told us to take down the tent and move to cover in the hangars. Seems a bad thunderstorm is on the way from the west. Brent Maule and I secured everything and we walked over to one of the big hangers to visit with the Lycoming engine folks while the storm passed. Once inside the hangar and around midday the rain and lightning began in earnest. It got black as night and the wind started to blow really hard. Then it all began to roar very loudly. I have heard this before....not good! Staff closed the large doors to the hangar so we could not see what was happening outside but these huge doors shook like a screen door on your porch! Then the lights went out. I thought any minute the roof would let go but the heavy steel hangar held together.

10 minutes later it was over and we looked outside to total devastation!. Outdoor vendors had their booths and products blown away, porta potties in rows blown over, tree limbs and trash everywhere. It was still raining but we walked out to the taxiway and then we saw the airplanes on the line. An awful sight! Airplanes wadded up like paper, some smashed to bits and some laying on top of others broken to various degree. If you love airplanes this is a sickening sight for sure. Our display Maule was severely damaged (it is seen in the photo at the far left) with the left wing broken down and the tail bent up. However, it was sitting upright on it's gear. We think another airplane flipped over and landed on it. The Maules called the plant who sent a crew down the next day to dismantle the pretty red airplane and take it back to the plant.

Sun & Fun staff say 70 airplanes were either damaged or destroyed. It looked worse. The NWS stated we had a micro burst and a F1 tornado hit the field. Our show was obviously over so I left on Friday morning to return home to Georgia. Mother nature tired her best to blow us away but we made it through this time! Hopefully, we will not see this kind of disaster ever again at any air or motorcycle show.

Our best wishes go out to those outdoor vendors who lost everything and to the owners of the aircraft that were destroyed.

Website update and Maule aircraft sales!

Hello and welcome back....

Since our move to our new offices downtown in Jan/Feb we have been very busy with various things and the RL Motorcycles & Aviation, LLC website had not been updated to reflect all that is going on here. Ever move to a new house? Moving a business is just as bad but harder and more exspensive! Well, the necesary changes are mostly done now. Our website now has a new HOME page, ABOUT US page, TERMS & POLICIES PAGE, CONTACT US page, and we will soon have a new MAULE AIRCRAFT page.

That's right, a new MAULE aircraft page! As of March 1st, 2011 we now proudly offer factory direct sales for Maule. Maule Air, Inc (a family owned business) manufactures the fine Maule STOL (Short Take Off or Landing) aircraft locally in Moultrie, GA. To serve the new Maule customer we can offer or arrange demo flights, a factory tour, Maule flight training, and any need you may have related to a new Maule purchase. We have extensive knowledge of Maule aircraft (we own one) and can assist with all the details to make your new Maule aircraft purchase go smoothly with no surprises. We know what it is like to spec out a new plane and we can help you make informed decisions. Just tell us what you want and we will do our best to make it happen for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
